contrary to popular belief and what society and the media will portray satanism, devil worship and witchcraft are 3 very independent systems of belief, .

sure, to those who are afraid of looking into books dealing with the occult, for fear of being possessed or what have you, i write this as a vent because it makes me laugh when i hear people assume that the three are the same, they aren't, .

and the reality is that even though the three get bunched up as the same, many times it is the ignorance of the practitioners which keeps the ignorance alive.

it is understandable why understanding the nature of the beast (no pun intended) would cause hesitation,
lets see if this helps. . .

satanism is not about selfishism as you mentioned
instead it is about being true to yourself, and looking out for yourself, and not letting others walk all over you. . . .

there is a difference,
you can be true to yourself and look out for your well being without being selfish,
there is nothing evil about having your best interests in mind,

it is about self empowerment as opposed to waiting on something to be resolved from above, it is about action instead of faith,
very simply it is about being human,
i am simply exposing it for what it truly is and not for what it is mistaken for. . .

granted that as AMAZING put it, there are groups that can be quite unhealthy, but the reality is that none of anton's books ask or even insinuate animal sacrifice, true story

those that hide under the mask of satanism in order to excuse bloodshed and sacrifice, are doing the same as the church has done for centuries,
they are simply blaming the devil,

i know this is totally backwards from what you probably are used to hearing and have heard, but don't take my word for it do the research, anton layed the law those that deviate from it aren't doing what he preached. . .

like all religions there are rules, these are the "rules" if you want to call them that. . .

i had been wantng to put this up for a while, for numerous reasons, but mainly to clear the misconception for those who may be biased or scared to read about such things,

this past weekend suzi and i were watching tv, i believe it was the learning channel -- or one of those educational ones -- and the subject dealt with the salem witch trials, and the commentator kept on saying that the witches were worshipping the devil and every time he made a reference to them he would make the association to satan or the devil, at one point he even called them satanists,
at that point we just looked at each other and were shaking our heads, mostly for the promotion of ignorance that was being spread on a so called educational channel, and were wondering where the clown had gotten his facts,
it is such a common assumption to believe that they are all the same and that is so far from the truth, i thought it would be a good idea to put it out here, especially for those who are curious but unsure as to if they should or not follow their urges to read on the subject. . . .
besides i wanted to find fellow pagans on the board,
i knew you were among us Silver, because of a few of your posts that i have read before. . .

Scott Cunningham is a good start, i read most of his stuff early on, when i began "exploring" he is a good start for basics, one of my favorite books to day is:
the 21 lessons of merlin by douglas monroe,

the reason i liked it so much was because it challenged my beliefs and scared me at the same time, not because of the contents themselves but because of the questions that would come up in my mind as i read,
it tells the tale of arthur being trained by merlin by method of story-lesson, if celtic lore and myth is your thing this is a great book,
2 other books i recommend highly are:
the witches' god
and
the witches' goddess
both written by janet and stewart farrar

these last 2 books are excellent, as a historic compilation for it gives a breakdown of the gods and goddesses throughout history and different civilizations, even if magick isn't your bag. . .

like you i was always drawn to the occult ever since i can remember, and at the time i wasn't sure if it was so much because i was taught that it was wrong and evil, or if it was because i had a natural affinity for it,
feel free to ask any question on the subject, i'll answer as best as i can

can't imagine why,
the irony is that you hear his name more in a kingdom hall or any other christian based church than you do outside of it,

1. i was born and raised in south georgia.. 2. my favorite subject in school was math.. 3. i was in the fulltime service (bethel and pioneer) for 4 years.. 4. my favorite color is blue.. 5. mitch and i have been together over 12 years.. 6. we live in a suburb of atlanta georgia.. 7. we love to eat out and have friends over for dinner and board games.. 8. the only sport i was ever any good at is tennis.. 9. my favorite tv show of all time is the simpsons.. 10. we are both naturists and wish we could lay on the beach naked every day.

for some reason when i hear the word spleen i associate it with Mystery Men, i think it was Paul Reuben who played Spleen or Mr. Spleen something to that effect. . .

you are so right it isn't about sacrifices at all,
i think that the only "religions" that call for sacrifices are santeria and voodoo which in essence is the same thing different ethnicity but similar source of origin. . .

any time it is depicted in a film a pentagram goes up and candles surround it and hell breaks loose, sad so sad

i was quite surprised myself, it is all about common sense, i think that it is its simplicity that freaks people out,
the rap that it gets from those who miss the point and misrepresent it , doesn't help the cause,
granted that the name invokes a dark connotation those that use it as an excuse to do what they want without responsability are completely missing the point. . .

i have been looking for the satanic verses, to add to my library . . . haven't come across it yet

ok i wish i could have a really cool story as to how it happened ie, snowboarding, rollerblading, skydiving accident, but that is not the case. . . . .

early on this year as i was leaving work, i was jumped by some guy in a ski mask wielding a lead pipe, he approached me from behind and in hindsight i am quite lucky to be alive, the only reason i know that he was behind me was cuz i saw him approach as i was opening my car door and i heard the crunching of the snow underneath his feet which stopped directly behind me,
as i turned around i saw him pull this pipe from underneath his jacket, i pushed him back and started to run, it gave me a few secs to run but he swung the pipe and got my arm which i realized after the fact, it was so cold that i didn't feel the bone snap, i turned and kicked him in th stomach and sent him back causing him to drop the pipe, for some reason he turned around and ran, i made it back to the shop and the paramedics were called, i spent the next 3 days in ICU, because during the attack my spleen burst, which was removed the following day,

quick lesson for all who are curious and for anyone that wants to know the truth. . .

Satanism is the newest of the three beliefs, started by Anton Szandor LaVey in the late 60's and gained recognition as a religion shortly after, contrary to what the name implies, Satanism IS NOT WORSHIP OF SATAN, surprise!!! it is a religion based on self-gratification, started by a carnie (he was carnival folk in his early days) as a mixture of mockery and rebellion towards mainstream christianity based on common sense realities of every day life, pretty much in a nutshell it is about being true to yourself, and looking out for yourself, and not letting others fuck you over. . . .

Devil Worship goes way back and it can be seen in different lights,
from a puritanical point of view, anyone that worshipped a different god other than the one of the conquering group was a devil worshipper,
from a devil worshippers point of view, if he was truly a devil worshipper he pretty much blatently practiced the black arts, with no remorse

Witchcraft is and was a nature based religion that is as ancient as time itself based on worship of the goddess, the female counterpart that has been supressed by patriarchy, in any tribe that exists in any remote part of the world you can rest assured that to some extent or other, the practice which society calls witchcraft occurs, in essence it deals with the aforementioned goddess, nature, and overall respect for our mother earth,

these descriptions are very brief , i could go on but my intention is not to bore but to explain the difference and share the awareness. . .
